Dhaulagiri Trekking

A trek around Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), the 7th highest peak in the world, sited in the western part of Nepal is considered as a challenging and most rewarding trek around the inspiring Dhaulagiri massif. This isolated trekking offers amazing natural scenery, evergreen forest blossoming with rhododendron combined with native warm heated people and their heady mixture of unique culture.

The popular and challenging high mountain passes in this area includes French Pass (5,360 meters) and Dhampus Pass (5,182 meters). Trekking trail passes through forests full of ferns, oak, juniper and into the high provinces, making over snow and glaciers. Further, it circuits around the Dhaulagiri massif, displaying the beauty and wilderness of Nepal’s remote area, which truly is an adventure to any trekking enthusiast. This is a beautiful all round trek that incorporates the best of what Nepal has to offer while being off the beaten track.

  • Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel 1350m.
  • Day 02 : Kathmandu City Tour.
  • Day 03 : Kathmandu to Beni by Bus.
  • Day 04 : Beni to Babyachaur Trek
  • Day 05 : Babyachaur to Darbang Trek.
  • Day 06 : Darbang to Takum Trek.
  • Day 07 : Takum to Muri Trek
  • Day 08 : Muri to Boghara Trek (2080m)
  • Day 09 : Boghara to Doban Trek
  • Day 10 : Doban to Italian Base Camp Trek
  • Day 11 : Acclimatization day in Italian Base Camp.
  • Day 12 : Italian Base Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek.
  • Day 13 : Dhaulagiri Base Camp to Hidden Valley (5000m) Trek.

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel 1350m.

Upon reaching in Kathmandu International Airport, received by Lhasso Adventure representative then transfer to your respective hotels Thamel. First check into your hotel rooms after getting refreshed, in the evening our expert guides will explain regarding the trip.

Day 02 Kathmandu City Tour.

After breakfast, you will go for a sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley with visits to many Buddhist and Hindu temples/shrines, which reflect the local culture & tradition, and religion of Nepalese society. After this exciting sightseeing tour, you will be taken back to your Hotel in the afternoon.

Day 03 Kathmandu to Beni by Bus.

In this day after breakfast, you will drive to Beni from Kathmandu, feasting upon the amazing scenery on the way. O/N at Beni.

Day 04 Beni to Babyachaur Trek

From Beni, you will pass Beni Mangalghat  where a row of shops stands along then enter a desolated mountainside. Pass Jyanmara which consists of a single teahouse, after the mountain path, follow a wide level path. Houses increase as you approach Singa with its shops and teahouses. Camp on the school ground, side by the Myagdi Khola. Passing a hot spring below to the left, enter cultivated fields to a wide path that leads to Tatopani. Ten minutes beyond this village, cross a suspension bridge to the right bank, pass the tiny village of Bholamza and go through fields to another suspension bridge which returns you to the left bank. Pass by Simarchor a little further on and cross the suspension bridge over the Newale Khola’that flows in from the right. Follow the Myagdi Khola left bank path past the small villages of Shisman and Talkot; climb a bit you will reach to Babichor. O/N at Babyachaur.

Day 05 Babyachaur to Darbang Trek.

Cross a high, winding path on a mountainside out Babichor. Terraced hills develop in the wide valley, paddies become plentiful and the path is easy to walk, being either flat or gently ascending. Pass, stone paved Shahasdara cross Dukh khola and continue amid paddies. After Ratorunga with its shop and tea house, the wide terraced hills end. Following a path along the river, you will pass Bodeni to Chachare with its teahouses. The terraced hills disappear on the opposite bank as well and the left bank of the narrow valley gently undulates up and down as you arrive at the large village of Darbang with its rows of shops. O/N at Darbang.

Day 06 Darbang to Takum Trek.

Crossing the suspension bridge to the right bank, pass the Tributary Rectum khola to your left as you go to the right through the hamlet of Darbang. Follow the right bank path along the river at the base of stone cliffs to Phedi (1100m) with its two teahouses. Just beyond the Phedi, cross the Dang khola, which flows from the left, and begin to climb a ridge on the opposite bank?  Climbing up a steep hill you will enter a mountainside on the Myagdi Khola side from the pine-covered ridge path to Dharapani, a heavily populated village. Once again climb a steep slope after which you descend a mountain path and you will reach to Takum. O/N at Takum.

Day 07 Takum to Muri Trek

From Takum to go to Muri you will follow the stone-welled path a short way beyond Phalli Gaun and enter the terraced fields to the right and cross the Dhara khola via a suspension bridge. If it is the dry season, descend the valley next to the school, walk to the opposite bank, and climb the steep hill for a short cut. The main path ascends the mountainside from the suspension bridge, passes below the village of Dhara and goes through a hamlet to an up and down mountain path to join with the shortcut described above. Though this is the long way the path is better. Follow the mountain path and skrit around the ridge, emerging once again to the right bank of the Myagdi khola. The mountain path continues, winding uphill, and when you skirt around a ridge, a vista of Dhaulagiri 1 (8167m) and Gurja Himal (7193m) opens up. Reach the large village of Muri where the houses of the Magar clan closely together. O/n at Muri.

Day 08 Muri to Boghara Trek (2080m)

Descend a gentle slope, and cross a rocky stream to Dhora khola. Here you will cross the river and climb to the right up the mountainside to Ghorban dhara. View from this pass is excellent, for the first time you can see Ghustung south (6465m). Follow the right bank path past Naura where you begin to ascend the mountainside. After climbing for a short while, take a path that traverses the steep grass-covered hill. Climbing after a while you enter a traverse to the right, here you must also be beware of falling into the gorge of the Myagdi khola. Soon you descend through a forested area, and reach to Boghara (2080). O/n at Boghara.

Day 09 Boghara to Doban Trek

From Boghara the trail proceeds, leaving the fascinating villages. The trail becomes increasingly challenging. Walking some hours you will reach to Doban. O/N at Doban.

Day 10 Doban to Italian Base Camp Trek

Passing through the beautiful forest, you will rapidly gain altitude and mountains burst out all around. This day you will have to walk tough through the mountains. The surroundings are spectacular which makes up for the rough and dangerous trail. This is a particularly tough day. Reaching the Camp you will take a rest. O/N at Italian Base Camp.

Day 11 Acclimatization day in Italian Base Camp.

This day you will take a rest. O/N at the Camp.

Day 12 Italian Base Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek.

From Italian Base Camp, you will further proceed to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. You will climb steadily to the rough and awesome yet spectacular Dhaulagiri Base Camp. O/N at Camp.

Day 13 Dhaulagiri Base Camp to Hidden Valley (5000m) Trek.

From Dhaulagiri Base crossing over the steep moraine walls you will further precede your trek. After a breathless climb to the top of French Col (5300m,) the views of Hidden Valley open out. The valley is evocative of Tibet and Ladakh. Reaching the valley you will take a rest. O/N at Hidden Valley.

Day 14 Acclimatization day in Hidden Valley.

A rest day to admire the surrounding peaks and perhaps do some exploring. O/N at Hidden Valley.

Day 15 Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka Trek.

After climbing over the (5200m) Dhampus Pass, you will traverse avalanche-prone slopes and then descend steeply to Yak Kharka observing the fascinating natural scenery of a remote area. O/N at Yak Kharka.

Day 16 Yak Kharka to Tukuche Trek.

From Yak Kharka, you will descent steeply through the beautiful forests and moraine. Trekking for some hours, you will then reach to Tukuche. O/N at Tukuche.

Day 17 Tukuche to Ghasa (2010m) Trek.

Crossing the Thapa Khola, you will come to Khobang. Then crossing a stream and passing a local school, you will reach Larjung. From Larjung, the trail proceeds through the forest and reaches to Dhampu, where you will be met up by old picturesque houses. Crossing the Kaligandaki, you will reach Kalopani (2530m) and to Lete (2480m). Making several ups and downs the trail, reaches Kiaku (2180m). From Kiaku, the trail crosses the ridge and reaches Ghasa. O/N at Ghasa.

Day 18 Ghasa to Tatopani (1190m) Trek.

The route crosses the Kaligandaki River on a suspension bridge and descends to Thapla (1890m). Making a steep and rocky decent you will reach Kopchepani and Rupse Chhahara, where you will notice a beautiful water fall. From Rupse Chhahara walking about thirty minutes,  you will get to Dana (1450m). Crossing the Bhalu Khola on a suspension bridge, the trail meets Guithe (1320m). Passing through a small tunnel you will reach to Tatopani where you can enjoy the relaxing hot springs. O/N at Tatopani.

Day 18 Tatopani to Ghorepani (2870m) Trek.

From Tatopani the trail again crosses the river and then climbs Shikha, a large and prosperous Magar village and forwards to Phalate. Beyond Phalate, you will meet the trail junction and going further you can get to Chitre. The trail forwards through rhododendron and Mongolia forest and finally reaches to Ghorepani. O/n at Ghorepani.

Day 20 Ghorepani to Tadapani (2710m) Trek.

Early in the morning, you can climb for about an hour to Poon Hill (3210m), the viewpoint for sunrise, and feasting your eyes upon Mount Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Himchuli and Machhapuchchhre. Return back to the Hotel for breakfast. After breakfast you will climb Gurung Hill, crossing pine and rhododendron forests, with some excellent views you will trek down to Deorali (3090m), then further trek down to Banthati (2650m). Passing Banthati trek down to the small river and climbing up the trail heads to Tadapani. O/N at Tadapani.

Day 21 Tadapani to Ghandruk (190m) Trek.

The trail descends steeply through the forest to Baisi Kharka. Then the trail further descends to a stream, after crossing the stream, the trail proceeds towards Ghandruk, a beautiful village where you will notice excellent views of Annapurna South and also the headquarters of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). O/N at Ghandruk.

Day 22 Ghandruk to Nayapul (1070m) to Pokhara Trek.

From Ghandruk, the trail descends to Chane (1690m) and to Kimchi (1640m). Following the ridge downhill to Kehone Danda then to Kliu (1390m) and on to a suspension bridge over the Sadhu Khola, finally arriving alongside the modi Khola, you will reach Shauli Bazaar (1140m). Passing through the lovely birch forest, you will get to Lamakhet and then to Birethanti (1000m). Walking about half an hour, you will reach Napa Pul. From Nayapul, drive back to Pokhara. O/N at Pokhara.

Day 23 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Drive back to Kathmandu (6 hours drive by bus. O /N at Kathmandu.

Day 24 Depart for your next destination.

Today is the final day of our Dhaulagiri Trek, We will drop you to Tribhuvan International Airport, 3 hours before your flight schedule. It’s time for departing to your next destination.
