Ghorepani Poon hill trek is short and easy trek, a popular trekking route in Annapurna region. This trek is suitable for every one and can be done throughout the year. The trip gets completed in five days. While traversing through the trekking trails, you will get chance to explore the Gurung culture; the majority ethnic group of the region also known as for British soldiers. Ghorepani Poon hill trek has the gorgeous combination of cultures, landscape and splendid views of snow caped mountains. From Poonhill top, you will be able to see panorama view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Machapuchhare, Hiunchuli, twelve peaks and Gangapurna.The trail leads you through the rain forest, magnificent waterfalls and beautiful river. You will also encounter with different types of flora and fauna during this trek. The main attraction of this trip is to know the Gurung customs and take pleasure of scenic view of 8000m above peak which includes Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I, end of the trip will make small circuit.

Equipment

Ghorepani Poon hill trek is low trek with an altitude up to 3200m, so you don’t need to have any especial gear. Nevertheless, we can not predict mountain weather so please prepare good kit such as down jacket, thermal shoot, Gloves, sunglass, sunscreen, woolen cap, trainers shoe, rain jacket, sleeping bag, good socks, a water bottle, flash light and walking stick. Almost these stuffs are sufficient for this trip.

Transport

This trek starts with an hour and half drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, you can either have public transport, private vehicle or Taxi. Basically public buses are cheaper than private vehicle or Taxi. If you are taking public bus to Nayapul it cost Rs. 300, taxi and private vehicle charge you Rs. 2500 to get Nayapul. Near the Mahendra Bridge, one can find the public transport to Nayapul. If someone gets sick or injured, some places have close exit point or can use pack animals (Horse) as transport to the nearest motorway.

Accommodation

Basically you will get accommodation facilities in tea houses which are pretty much clean, facilitated and warm in Ghorepani and Poonhill trekking route. The bed will be 5×7 feet covered by white sheet with a pillow; it is Rs. 200 for a night in sharing basis. Some tea house also has attached bathroom making luxurious for the visitors. However, it is little expensive then the common room, which might cost Rs. 700 for a night accommodation. Very important, when someone has booked the accommodation in tea house, they should eat at same place. Because tea house expect business, if someone had food outside they will not get room.

Food

You can have different cuisine as you wish; Nepali, Indian and continental. The tea houses foods are cheaper and hygienic, normally per meal cost you Rs. 600. Hot and cold beverage such as tea, coffee and coke cost around Rs. 150 in Ghorepani Poon hill trek. A day approximate budget is Rs. 2500 for food and accommodation in this trek.

Water

Trekkers can find running water everywhere in Ghorepani and Poonhill trek, which is not safe to drink directly. Either you have to add purify stuffs or carry filtered water form tea houses which cost nearly Rs. 70 per liter. If someone is seeking boiled water, then it cost Rs. 100 per liter whereas some tea houses provide it free.

Communication

While trekking in Ghorepani and Poonhill region Communication is very handy. Nepal has two popular mobile network companies, they are Nepal Telecom (NTC) and another is Ncell. You can find both Sim Card easily in the local shops, even in the airport on exit gate. But you should have a photograph and a passport copy. The Ncell Sim Card cost Rs. 100 and NTC Sim card cost Rs. 250. Along the way both users get reception and also you can use internet data. It is cheap to call your families and friends from Nepal. Similarly, the tea houses also have internet service, but you have pay for that per hour RS. 100.
